Bike riding was always a staple in the community we grew up.  Back then mostly every child in the neighborhood had a bike. If parents didn’t buy their bike, then one of the skilled kids in the neighborhood would take found bike parts and assemble a bike right in front of the apartment complex.   Hardly a day passed where you wouldn’t find a group of boys and girls huddled around a bicycle they were either trying to assemble or repair. Everyone added whatever knowledge and skill they had about bikes to help get the wheels turning.

Biking was one of the sports that always brought fun, joy and unity to our community.  I remember a few occasions when I, myself huddled around a bunch of friends in the neighborhood and watched as they helped me bring my bike back to life.  Each child had their own special choice of bicycles but I can remember that one of the more popular bikes at the time was the banana bike. I often found myself riding my friends gold banana bike in our neighborhood.

That same knowledge and skill is what led to the opening of Bike Life on April 16, 2010 and that same knowledge and skill is what has kept us up and running for the past ten years.

We realize that more people are riding bicycles and New York City is striving to ensure that city streets are bike friendly so that everyone including cyclists have a safe way to travel.  We are passionate about cycling and take great pride in the community we serve and we are committed to providing our customers with high quality bikes, parts, components, accessories and service at comparable prices and we look forward to serving the community for many years to come.
